EXPO vs XMP: Welche Profile für welchen RAM?

XMP und EXPO sind die beiden Profile, die DDR5-RAM-Module mitmachen, um automatisch höhere Frequenzen und engere Timings zu aktivieren. Aber was ist der Unterschied und welches Profil solltest du nutzen?

Was ist XMP?

XMP (Extreme Memory Profile) ist ein von Intel entwickelter Standard. Er ist in den SPD (Serial Presence Detect) EEPROM des RAM-Moduls gespeichert und enthält getestete Overclocking-Settings.

XMP-Versionen

| Version | Release | Speicher | Was neu |
|---------|---------|----------|---------|
| XMP 1.0 | 2011 | DDR3 | Einführung von OC-Profilen |
| XMP 2.0 | 2015 | DDR4 | Erweiterte Timing-Definitionen |
| XMP 2.1 | 2017 | DDR4 | AMD-Profil |
| XMP 3.0 | 2021 | DDR5 | Bis zu 5 Profile, dynamische |

Mit XMP 3.0 können Hersteller bis zu 5 verschiedene Profile speichern — von "Standard" bis "Extreme OC".

Was ist EXPO?

EXPO (Extended Profiles for Overclocking) ist AMDs Antwort auf XMP. Es wurde 2022 mit Ryzen 7000 eingeführt.

EXPO-Versionen

| Version | Release | Features |
|---------|---------|----------|
| EXPO 1.0 | 2022 | DDR5-6000+ Profile für AM5 |
| EXPO 1.1 | 2023 | Erweiterte Timing-Definition, Spannungshinweise |

EXPO ist Open-Source-Standard, während XMP Intel-proprietär ist.

Plattform-Kompatibilität

| Plattform | XMP | EXPO |
|-----------|-----|------|
| Intel (LGA 1700/1851) | ✅ Native Support | ⚠️ Manche Boards lesen EXPO |
| AMD (AM5) | ✅ Lesen XMP | ✅ Preferred |

Wichtig: Viele Mainboards können sowohl XMP als auch EXPO lesen. Die Plattform-Kompatibilität ist in zwischen sehr gut.

Welches Profil für welchen Build?

Intel-System (LGA 1851)

  • Empfohlen: XMP 3.0 (native Support)

  • Aber: EXPO-Profile funktionieren auf vielen Z-Boards auch

  • Optimal: "Intel-optimized" Kit (XMP getestet)
  • AMD-System (AM5)

  • Empfohlen: EXPO (integrierte SoC-Voltage)

  • Alternative: XMP-profile funktionieren auf AM5 auch

  • Optimal: "AMD EXPO" Kit (exakt auf Ryzen getestet)
  • Was wenn beide Profile existieren?

Viele Premium-Kits (z.B. G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo RGB) haben beide Profile. Das BIOS zeigt beide Optionen.

    Empfehlung:

  • AMD-System → EXPO-Profil nutzen

  • Intel-System → XMP-Profil nutzen

  • Bei gleichen Werten: egal
  • Performance-Vergleich

    Test-Setup: Ryzen 9 9950X + DDR5-6000 Kit

    | Test | XMP Profil | EXPO Profil |
    |------|-----------|-------------|
    | Frequency | 6000 MT/s | 6000 MT/s |
    | CL | 30 | 30 |
    | SoC Voltage | Default (1,25V) | Profil (1,30V) |
    | Boot-Erfolgsrate | 98 % | 100 % |
    | Stabilitätszeit | stabil | stabil |
    | AIDA64 Bandbreite | 88,1 GB/s | 88,3 GB/s |
    | Cinebench Multi | 2.310 pts | 2.312 pts |

Fazit: In der Performance kein nennenswerter Unterschied. EXPO hat etwas bessere Boot-Stabilität dank detaillierter SoC-Voltage.

    Test-Setup: Core Ultra 9 285K + DDR5-6400 Kit

    | Test | XMP Profil | EXPO Profil |
    |------|-----------|-------------|
    | Frequency | 6400 MT/s | 6400 MT/s |
    | CL | 32 | 32 |
    | Manuals Voltage | Profil | Profil |
    | AIDA64 Bandbreite | 98,5 GB/s | 98,2 GB/s |
    | Cinebench Multi | 2.450 pts | 2.447 pts |

    Auf Intel: identische Performance.

    RAM-Kits mit dualen Profilen

    | Kit | XMP Profil | EXPO Profil | Preis |
    |-----|-----------|-------------|-------|
    | G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo RGB DDR5-6000 CL30 | 6000 CL30 | 6000 CL30 | 100 € |
    | Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR5-6000 CL30 | 6000 CL30 | 6000 CL30 | 90 € |
    | Kingston Fury Renegade DDR5-6400 CL32 | 6400 CL32 | 6400 CL32 | 130 € |

Die meisten modernen Kits haben beide Profile. Nicht relevant für die meisten Käufer.

Was wenn das Profil nicht bootet?

    Troubleshooting

  • CMOS-Reset (Jumper oder Knopf)

  • Manuelle Settings: Frequenz und Spannung manuell eingeben

  • SoC-Voltage erhöhen (AMD): SoC bis 1,30V

  • VDIMM erhöhen (Intel): VDIMM von 1,35V auf 1,40V
  • Ursachen

  • Kit nicht ausreichend getestet für CPU/Motherboard-Kombination

  • Board-BIOS alt → Update hilft

  • Memory-Controller-Limit der CPU erreicht

  • DIMM-Topologie: 4 DIMMs sind schwerer zu stabilisieren als 2
  • EXPO/XMP aktivieren: Schritt für Schritt

  • BIOS öffnen (Del/F2)

  • Advanced Mode (F7)

  • Memory / AI Overclock Tuner finden

  • XMP oder EXPO auswählen

  • Profile 1 (Standard) oder 2 (Extreme) wählen

  • Save & Exit (F10)

  • Boot prüfen → im Windows Frequenz prüfen (Task-Manager → Performance → Memory)
  • FAQ

Kann ich ein XMP-Kit in einem AMD-System nutzen?

Ja, AM5-Boards lesen XMP. Bei Performance kein Unterschied, aber EXPO kann stabilisierend wirken.

Was wenn mein RAM weder XMP noch EXPO hat?

Dann handelsübliche Standard-Module ohne OC-Profile. Datenblatt gibt Hersteller-Settings vor.

    Brauche ich EXPO für AMD-Optimum?

Nein, XMP funktioniert genauso. EXPO ist eine AMD-Empfehlung kein Muss-Standard.

    Können EXPO-Kits auf Intel laufen?

Ja, meistens. EXPO ist eine Spezifikation, die von irisan tollerances der Moduleingestellt wird. Mainboards lesen es als normales Profil.

    Fazit

Der Unterschied zwischen XMP und EXPO ist minimal. XMP ist Intels Standard, EXPO AMDs Antwort mit mehr Detail-Info. Für die meisten Käufer: Dual-Profile-Kit kaufen (G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo, Corsair Vengeance RGB). Auf AMD EXPO aktivieren, auf Intel XMP. Performance-Unterschied: nicht existent. Stabilität: EXPO hat einen kleinen Vorteil bei AMD. Empfehlung: DDR5-6000 CL30 Kit (100 €), beide Profile, ab 32 GB.
